If a publication has the word "journal” in its name, is it safe to assume that the contents are scholarly in nature?

Answer

The word "journal" in the title does not always indicate that it is a scholarly publication.

  • A publication is classified as a "journal" based upon the quality of information it offers.
  • Academy of Management Journal is a scholarly publication
  • Wall Street Journal is NOT a scholarly publication, since it is a newspaper.
  • Academy of Management Review is a scholarly publication, though the word "journal" is not there in the title.
