Q. I am doing a position paper on non profit vs for profit hospitals. Are there any books or articles on this?

Answer

Hello,

I would recommed that you look at both types of resources, books and articles. We have a couple books on the topic,

The changing hospital industry : comparing not-for-profit and for-profit institutions- available at the Flint campus. The link below will provide you more information about the book.

Critical condition : how health care in America became big business-- and bad medicine.

As for databases, I would recommend ABI/Inform under the Business databases heading or CINAHL under the Medical databases heading. Please find the databases here:

Try doing two separate searches, one for "not-for-profit hospitals" and another for "for-profit hospitals". After you type in the keywords, you will have a list of results (articles from magazines, journals, newspapers, etc). You may narrow the search by the type of article you want. If you do not see the PDF or HTML link available (the full text of the article) please look for the icon below which will search our other databases to see if we have the article in another database.
