Q. Where can I find a topic to write about for a rhetorical analysis essay?

It has to be someone else's work that I am analyzing, and something current.

It is always best to write about a topic that interests you or is related to your future career goals.  In addition, many instructors like to assign specific things to look for or specific types of sources, such as advertisements, editorials, etc.

  • To find an advertisement or other visual, search for various products or topics in Google Images. (Ex: Cheerios or "animals and advertisements")
  • To find an editorial, search news sources such as New York Times or Wall Street Journal. If you search Google News, be sure you are using a credible publication and not a person's "news blog".
  • To find an opinionated essay on a topic, try Opposing Viewpoints

If you are using a Baker College database, you may need the 14-digit library number from your Baker ID.

Thank you for using the ASK US service.  For additional assistance, please contact your campus librarians.
