Q. Can you add a chart or table or graph to a APA style paper?

Answer

Yes, you can add a chart, table or graph to an APA paper. The citation should be underneath the table and on the References page.

Graph, Chart, or Table Retrieved Online

Author. (Publication Date). Title of graph, chart, or table [type of figure]. Title of website. Retrieved from website.

Example:

Online Figure with Title

US Census Bureau. (2016). Industries in Which California Ranks First in Terms of Sales or Receipts Per Capita [Table]. 2016 Economic Census.  Retrieved from http://www.census.gov/econ/census02/data/tops/TOPSTCA.HTM

Sometimes you won't be able to find all the pieces of information, in which case you will only be able to include what you know about the image.

If you are using an image from the internet, you want to make sure that you have permission to use the image. It is still a copyright violation to use someone's creative work without their permission. If you are concerned you may be doing this, you can search for images that are considered to have Creative Commons licenses, which are intended for people to use in their own works. You can run a google search for creative commons photos to get images you can legally use without having to obtain the permission of the creator.
