What is an ellipse? What about ellipsis or ellipses?
Answer
See the explanations below for writing ellipsis or a math ellipse:
Writing: An ellipsis (plural ellipses): (from the APA Style Blog)
- An ellipsis is a set of three dots in the middle of a sentence.
- The purpose is to let the reader know that some part of the text has been left out.
Example:
Original: He came home, with dogs and parakeet in tow, just in time for supper.
With text omitted: He came home . . . just in time for supper.
Math: Ellipse explained: ellipse
