Q. Could you help me find information about the Irish American Language?

Thank you for your question about Irish-Americans and the languages that they speak.

The Irish in America either speak English or they may speak Irish Gaelic (Gaeltacht) in addition to English. In Ireland there are two official languages, English and Gaeltacht.  For more information about the Irish government's campaign to preserve the Irish language, visit Ireland's Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Affairs.

Visit the Gale Virtual Reference Library database for some background information on Gaelic.

There are some videos about Gaelic on Films on Demand.  Use your Library Card number from your ID Card to access.

Thank you for using ASK US. Please contact your Campus Librarians if you have additional questions.
