Q. Proper APA format for presenting a title on page 2 is to center the title? How do I list page numbers and titles on following pages?

Thank you for your question. The cover page is the only page that will be different for the title and page number header. The rules for the 2nd page apply to all subsequent pages. In Word you can set "different first page" so that you can have your unique cover page and then the rest of the pages that follow will format the same as the 2nd page.

To see a sample paper with the proper headings/page numbers in APA style, visit the APA Help guide and look for APA 6th Edition: Assignment Template or Sample Paper.

  • The paper title should appear centered at the beginning of the body of your paper.
  • Page numbers should be in the right hand side of the header on every page.
  • The title page should have the words Running head: YOUR TITLE in the left hand side of the header.
  • All the other pages should just have the title in the header.
