Q. Can you give me an example of how et al is used?

The latin phase et al. is used in APA format to abbreviate a long list of authors or editors. If a book you are citing has six or more authors, you would cite it using this format:

(FirstAuthor, et al., date).

For example:

(Barrett, et al., 2017).

See the APA Help guide for more information.

You can use the same format to abbreviate lists of 3 or more authors after the first time you use a source in your paper. The first time you use a source, you need to write out the whole list of their names in the citation.
