Q. How do I cite a cell phone conversation in APA style?

Answer

Citing a conversation (whether in person or on a cell phone) would be a personal communication.  To see how to cite a personal communication:

  • Visit the APA Help guide
  • Click the References & In-text Citation Examples
  • Look for Other
  • Look for Personal Communication.

Example:

First Initial & Middle Initials. Last Name (personal communication, August 3, 2017)

Example used in-text:

An important step in starting a small business is to have a detailed business plan, according to T.A. Betts (personal communication, August 3, 2017).

This particular type of citation should only appear in-text and not on the References page.
