If I want to use different parts of a website, do I create a citation for each part?

Do I cite the website as one reference or as individual references because I'm using more than one page within the website?

Answer

Most websites that don't fit the criteria below would have just one entry on your References page to cover the whole website.

Consider these questions to see if you need a citation for each part of the website:

  • Does the website have separate authors or editors for each section?
  • Are the pages hard to navigate to from the homepage?
  • Is the website particularly large?
  • If you answered yes to these questions, then you may need a citation for each page you used.

For information on how to cite a website, see the APA Help guide.
