Individual states publish crime rate data on their state government website. For example, Michigan's crime rate data can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123-1645_3501_4621---,00.html.
In addition, the FBI website and the census website are also good places to compare crime rate data for the states.
