Q. Can you help me locate information on prisons?
Thank you for your question about prisons.
There are two main places to look for information about prisons: in books and in articles from databases.
To find books about prisons, go to the library's homepage (http://guides.baker.edu/onlineresources) and click on Find Books & eBooks. In the Book Catalog, You can limit your search to the library you want to search by using the pull down menu where it says "library". You can select you campus and it will limit to just books your campus owns. Or you can select "Baker eBooks" to see what ebooks there are on your topic. You should probably also change the other pull down menu from "words or phrase" to "subject" to ensure better results. Then you will want to type "prison" into the search box and click "search". You will get a list of results and then you can either come to your campus to check out the book or view the ebook on your computer.
To find articles about prisons, go to the library's homepage (http://guides.baker.edu/onlineresources) and click on Find Articles & Databases. From the Online Resources page, you will want to select the subject Criminal Justice. In the right column you will see some specific databases listed. Try Criminal Justice Collection. (*Note: If you are off campus, you will need to enter your library barcode number to access the databases. It is found on the back of your ID card or in your SOLAR account.) Run a search for "prison". Make sure that the box which says "to documents with full text" is checked. You will get many results, so you may want to consider narrowing your search down to something specific about prisons.
If you want to look for other information about prisons, you may want to search the following databases:
- ProQuest Psychology Journals (under the Psychology section on the Online Resources page)
- LegalTrac (under the Law section on the Online resources page)
- Academic OneFile (under the General section on the Online Resources page)
There is also a Corrections Officer and Criminal Justice Research Guide that you may find useful.
If you need additional assistance, please contact your campus librarians.
