Q. In a reference list which words in the titles of books should be capitalized?

Answer

Here's how to capitalize a book title on the References page:

  • Capitalize the first word in the title of the book and the first word after the colon.
  • Also, capitalize any proper nouns in the title, such as a person's name or a country's name.

General format:

Author Last Name, First & Middle Initials. (Year). Title of book: Subtitle of book. City, ST: Publisher.

Example:

Waller, B. N. (2019). Consider ethics: Theory, readings, and contemporary issues (3rd ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall.
