How do you cite the same author, same journal article in different parts of the paper?

Answer

If using a citation from the same author more than once:

  • It should appear the same, with no modifications (except possibly the page number).
  • They all refer to same resource on the References page.

An example of this is in the Sample Paper on the APA Help guide.

  • On page 6, there is a citation for Milian (2017).
  • On page 7, there is another reference to Milian.
  • The only difference is that page 6 is a quote and page 7 is a paraphrase.
