Q. Where can I find information about the wedding traditions of a particular country or culture?

If you are looking for information on wedding traditions, you can try the keywords/topics:

  • weddings
  • wedding traditions
  • marriage customs
  • Don't forget to try both the name of the people and the country of interest, for example "Italian weddings" is a good search, but you may get different results if you try Italy and weddings.

For books or ebooks, check the Book Catalog. See a list of books available under the subject heading Marriage customs and rites.

For articles, check the databases below. Start at the Online Resources page and click on History/Geography/World Culture. If you are off-campus you will need to use your 14 digit Library Number, which can be found on your ID Card or on the Login Assistance page in MyBaker.

  • A to Z World Culture (World Trade Press)For information about a specific country.  Choose the country you are interested in.  From the country's entry, click on Culture on the left.  In this section choose Life Cycle.  Scroll down to the section about Marriage.
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library:  For information about a culture.  Try a search for Culture/Country AND weddings or Culture/Country AND marriage.  Not all cultures are represented.

Thank you for using ASK US. For more information contact your campus Academic Resource Center.
