Q. How do you reference song lyrics?

To cite song lyrics from a website:

  • Cite the songwriters as the authors
  • Include a date (if there is one) - If there is no date listed, use (n.d.) for no date.
  • Include the title of the song in italics
  • End with Retrieved from and the website.

Author(s). (date). Title of song. Retrieved from ...

Holljes, I.C. & Holljes, E.R. (n.d.) Bottom of the river. Retrieved from www.metrolyrics.com/bottom-of-the-river-lyrics-delta-rae.html

If the song lyrics are from a CD:

Fuchs, G. (2004). Light the menorah. On Eight nights of Hanukkah [CD]. Brick, NJ: Kid Kosher.

Paraphrase: (Fuchs, 2004). Quotation: (Fuchs, 2004, track title or number).
