What is the footnote for?

Answer

Footnotes are:

  • Found at the bottom of a research paper page.
  • Used either as part of a citation style (copyright) or as a way to give the reader supplemental information (content)
  • Used in Chicago style citation
  • Baker College uses APA citation style and footnotes are very rarely used in APA.

Here is an article from the official APA Style blog that discusses footnotes.
