How do I emphasize words within a quote?
Answer
To emphasize part of a quote:
- The desired words can be italicized.
- Then add the phrase [emphasis added] in brackets directly after the italicized words.
Example:
“Nature selects variations that are advantageous for survival and reproduction in a particular environment [emphasis added], just as farmers artificially select for economically desirable characteristics” (Cullen, 2016, pp. 52-53).
